Most of us know that twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. In this article, we will discuss how small business can utilize twitter effectively.

Earlier in twitter, group following was not possible. On the basis of users’ feedback, twitter has launched new features “Twitter List”. It enables group relationships beyond following each other. Anyone can create and publish twitter lists, so if you have a new idea for one, just click “New list” in the sidebar of your Twitter account. Add accounts to a list using the “Lists” drop drown on a twitter profile page.

Twitter list has some incredible benefits for small businesses in how they can organize or otherwise endorse people they follow. There are no best practices for using Twitter Lists. However, we will share some great ideas to spark your imagination.

Twitter lists can be private or public and small businesses can follow any lists without resulting in an influx of people they follow. Twitter helps you to notice and noticing others in this competitive business environment. Twitter has a very fair and equal platform for everyone to connect to their desired audience or customer and engage.

Instead of becoming obsessed with the number of followers you have amassed pay attention to the lists you are enrolled on and see which associates you have attracted. We know few companies encourage employees to Tweet. This would be a healthy why to highlight and endorse one’s association with the company. Does your business make use of VIPs or similar stars that could be a street team for your brand? Draw attention to them and they will highlight you.

Associate yourself with industry associations or peers. On Twitter, it’s collaboration not competition. What are you using twitter lists for? Share it in your blogs or comments! There has to be someone in your company who is great on twitting. Showing humbleness and embracing talent on twitter is a great service for your audience to help grow your audience.

There are more ways for small businesses could benefit from Twitter Lists. To know more about how twitter can be benefited for your organization read an e-book on “Twitter Marketing”.

Participating in online forums where your potential customers gather is a great way to promote your business and generate a lot of traffic for your website. In order to be successful, though, keep these three tips in mind.

1. Sell relationships, not products.

Promoting your business in a forum is all about establishing yourself as an industry expert with a lot of valuable knowledge to share. Don’t expect gimmicky sales tactics to work in forums. The fastest way you can turn people against you in a forum is to post blatant product advertisements. People participate in forums to connect with like-minded people and share relevant information, not to be sold something.

Your best bet in promoting in forums is to always look for opportunities to respond to participants’ questions with the exact information they are looking for. This way, you will gain the respect of the community and start to establish yourself as a credible expert.

You need to sit back and listen, and wait for good opportunities to share your expert knowledge. Be professional in your approach and post on a consistent basis, and you will begin to develop a strong relationship with that community. This way, when you finally do mention your product or service casually as the answer to someone’s problem or refer a reader to your website for more information, the community will take you seriously, rather than being offended or angry.

2. Attach a signature file to all of your posts.

Your electronic signature (“sig file”) is a three to six line footer that you should attach to the bottom of your emails and forum postings. Of course, forums typically frown on obvious advertisements, but adding a sig file to posts that contain relevant, quality information is considered acceptable. Your sig file should include your name, email address, phone number, URL, and a link to an informative article or newsletter subscription offer.

3. Learn your Netiquette.

Different forums have different ideas of what is acceptable and what isn’t. What you post and how you go about promoting your business in one forum might not work so well in another. Here are some general rules you should abide by when posting in forums:

• Avoid profanity. This might be acceptable in some forums, but no matter what it isn’t professional and you can offend potential customers, so it’s best to just avoid using profanity in all situations.
• Don’t post in capital letters. Capital letters are considered YELLING and will offend and annoy your readers.
• Ignore flaming. Flames are nasty messages and emails that people may respond to you with. It’s best to just ignore them and not respond back in kind.
• Stay on topic. You will annoy readers if you jump in with random comments or questions that aren’t relevant to the conversation.
• Always be respectful of other members. You will encounter all sorts of people in forums, some with very different backgrounds and opinions than your own. Respect everyone’s right to their own point of view.
• Don’t act like you’re better than anyone else. If you can contribute to a discussion, make sure you do so in a way that doesn’t make you look arrogant.
• Never spam! Don’t post the same thing on hundreds of different forums. This is a waste of your valuable time and can also get you into a lot of trouble.

The Droid smartphone is upon us. Motorola, in a bid to save itself, has given Verizon Wireless its most advanced smartphone to date. In fact, not only does the Droid best the Storm2 in practically every category, it knocks the iPhone 3GS around in a few as well.

Motorola’s Droid stands out from this. Offered only though Verizon, the Motorola Droid smartphone functions on the Android 2.0 platform which is significantly more efficient than the previous array of Android 1.6 phones on the market. The device is also much more social website accessibly (you can stay up to date anywhere on Facebook or MySpace)!).

One of the first things you notice about the Droid is its screen, which is truly better than that sported by the iPhone. It possesses a 3.7 inch capacitive screen with striking 480×854-pixel resolution. Further distancing itself from the iPhone 3GS is the Droid’s fully functional slideout QWERTY keyboard. This makes the mobile experience all that much more powerful. It is almost like having a fully functional PC in your pocket, save that it’s a lot cooler and only weight a few ounces.

The Droid’s internal camera feature is also outstanding. At 5.0 megapixels it rivals all phone based cameras on the market. The camera’s 5.0 megapixels are enhanced with an LED flash and a fast autofocus. Further enhancing the photographic experience, the Droid possesses a full array of photo altering functions, meaning you can edit and manipulate photographs directly on the device before mobile uploading them to websites such as Facebook.

Before you do anything, you start with 16 gigabytes of capacity on the included microSD card. If you need more room (say for a collection of videos or high resolution photographs), the Motorola Droid will support a 32GB microSD card as well.

More importantly, if you are a Verizon Wireless customer, there isn’t another smartphone in the Verizon selection that remotely rivals the Droid. The Storm2 is great and all, but it does not have the multimedia fuctionality and crisp streaming capabilities of the Droid. Plus, if you are set on the iPhone, you would have to sign up with AT&T, which means you are sacrificing both coverage and network speed.

Also contrasting with AT&T the Verizon 3G data network actually has the capacity to enjoy all of the Droid’s features. Live streaming video and tv is seamless on the droid, and the internal graphics processor makes it entirely so.

Without a doubt, the future of Verizon Wireless lies in the hands of the Droid. Even the iPhone’s strongest feature, its app selection, is prone to competition from Motorola and Verizon. With WiFi, Bluetooth and every other connectivity mode you could possibly want, the Droid delivers across the board. Now you can ditch AT&T’s poor call service and the iPhone without a twinge of guilt. You simply will not be sorry.

Have you been at school or work getting bored? Then all of a sudden you obtain that advice to get into the PC and visit your accounts of social networking? You get in the PC in your cubicle, hoping for the possibility to see what is happening in the real world. You open the browser, enter in the URL of your social networking website, press enter and to your shock, a screen pops up saying that the website is blocked.

Hysterically, you try to open the others, and all website are also blocked. So what are you going to do? Unluckily, it is becoming easier for network administrators to obstruct sites on their networks. The usage of things like the host file in windows and IPSEC permit them to obstruct you from surfing freely with a click of a mouse. Because websites like Facebook, twitter, YouTube and Myspace are considered as “distractions” to you whilst you are at school or work, they’re the ones to be obstructed most often. And unluckily for you, those are the websites that you like.

The great news is that there is a quick and simple way to avoid network filters and obstructs and get your liberty on the net back so easily. The answer is making use of a web proxy to use the net. A web proxy is a site that has the capability to avoid any filters and obstructs that the administrator have set up. The best thing is, web proxies don’t need any type of setup or installation on your PC! This means you could surf the net freely w/out your administrator ever finding out! The trouble you may find w/ using proxies sometimes they get obstructed by your administrator. What are you going to do?

Well, there is other simple solution, a web-proxy list! Web proxy files are sites that have a large catalog of proxy websites that have been sent by proxy webmasters around the world. This is a good resource to utilize when you’re in a condition where your admin has obstructed the proxy sites that you’ve been utilizing, because you’ll always have another one accessible to use!

Another good way to obtain the newest proxies sent directly to your email is joining a Proxy Group. You’ll have the freshest and latest proxies to utilize in your e-mail account every time that you sign in. You could even follow a proxy machine on twitter to view proxies as they’re placed to the list of proxy. This signifies that you’re getting the newest and freshest proxies to utilize every time.

In today`s busy world, people live and work differently than they did mere decades ago. Businesspeople and teenagers alike feel a constant need to be in touch with colleagues and friends. Whether it is keeping up with the stock market or finding out who asked who out on a date, the exchange of information is always flowing and no one wants to be left out of it.

Smart phones provide the solution for people who need to be in touch while they are on the go. The devices generally have phone call capability as well as a built-in organizer/calendar functionality, web browsing ability and email and texting applications. Many smart phones can run word processing and spreadsheet software, allowing a user to have a virtual office literally in the palm of his or her hand.

The options are wide and varied in terms of features and price. A selection of top Smart Phone choices include: Apple iPhone 3GS, Motorola Droid, HTC Touch Pro2, Blackberry Bold 9700 and the Palm Pre. They have some shared features and each has its own unique attributes.

Some see Apple`s iPhone as the ultimate Smart Phone. Many people eagerly anticipated the original version`s entrance to the market and Apple did not disappoint. The 3GS, the newest version, is worth its price tag. It is very slim and lightweight and has an attractive looking touchscreen with large icons. Everything you could need is at your fingertips, from a calendar to your email to a variety of other applications that can be downloaded easily. On the downside, there have been complaints about call quality and access to the 3G network.

The Motorola Droid is a strong competitor to the iPhone, running on Google`s Android platform as opposed to Apple. The Droid has a touch screen as well as a full QWERTY keyboard, which may be easier for some people to use. The Droid is slightly larger and heavier than the iPhone, but it surpasses the iPhone in terms of call quality and picture quality on the screen.

The HTC Touch Pro is larger and heavier than the iPhone and the Droid and is also more expensive. It is more appropriate and useful for the business user as it runs Windows Mobile and comes with conference call management tools. It also has a high-quality and large touch screen as well as a pop-out QWERTY keyboard. Unlike the Droid`s keyboard which some have found unwieldy to use, the HTC Touch Pro`s keyboard manages to have enough space between the keys to make typing very easy. The phone provides excellent call quality and is a great solution for the businessperson on the go.

The Blackberry Bold complements Blackberry`s line of smart phones and adds a little more style to their selection with its sleeker design. Because the keyboard is part of the main body of the phone rather than a pop-out, the screen on the Blackberry Bold is obviously smaller than that of the iPhone, Droid or HTC Touch Pro. It is a question of personal preference, as some people would rather sacrifice the screen size for the convenience of having the keyboard always accessible. While Blackberry users are generally satisfied with the products, the web browser lags behind that of the other smart phones in terms of ease of use.

Finally, there is the Palm Pre, which has been hyped as another major competitor to the iPhone. The Palm Pre is smaller than the iPhone but with a similar look in terms of a simple touch screen. The screen provides a very high quality picture and is easy to navigate. For those that prefer the keyboard experience, there is a QWERTY keyboard that is easily accessible, although small and not so easy to use. Where the Palm Pre stands out over other smart phones is in its multi-tasking capability. It is simple to run several applications at once and easy to switch back and forth among them.

The choices are limitless when it comes to choosing a Smart Phone. As with most things, it is all about personal preferences and finding the one that has the features that best suit you.

It’s amazing how you can earn such easy money with the power of Google Adsense. By easy, I mean you don’t need to make sales to generate money but just clicks on targeted ads. It couldn’t be that simple. Of course you need to drive traffic to your site and as with everything in internet business, you can’t get any income if you have no web traffic. Even if you can generate an extra $300-$500 per month, wouldn’t that make a difference in your life? I bet it will. Google Adsense can easily cover your web hosting fees and you are already running on a profit just by using adsense. Of course there are some people who are earning thousands and tens of thousands of dollars with this program but this is not the norm for most participants. Income will vary depending on many factors like targeted traffic, number of websites, the more the better, the theme of your site whether the keywords being targeted are high paying ones on adsense. If you have a network of websites on high paying adsense keywords, you will get much more. Mind you that it’s against Google terms to create websites for the sole purpose of generating income from adsense. Build a useful website, then integrate adsense in your content.

You need to realise that there are certain tips and techniques to take into consideration if you want to really profit from adsense. It’s not just slapping an ad on your site and watch the money rolling in. You need to tweak your ad whether it’s in appearance, placement or in content. Did you know that what you write on your web pages can have an effect on what ads appear on your web site? This is one of the key factors that can decide between a high earning adsense site and a low earning adsense one. Some keywords that are bidden on Google Adwords are extremely lucrative because they yield a high return on the clicks due to the fact that the advertisers are paying a hefty sum to get a top placement in the adwords ranking. The more you pay, generally you appear higher and in some niches, it costs a lot to get top ranking in adwords.

Say your site is about search engine optimization, you should try to write content focussing on this subject well so that you have ads on this topic. If some advertisers bidding on adwords have paid quite a lot for them and these advertisers’ ads appear on your site, you will earn great income. Note that in an adsense ad unit, Google generally displays the highest paying advertisers. So in a block comprised of 4 ads generally, you can see only 3, 2 or 1 from time to time. This varies and is not static. Usually, the ad at the top pays higher.

Also you need to take into consideration the ad appearance because this can have a positive or negative effect on your click through rate of the ads. You can have an ad with border or a frameless one. You can have ads, background or links with specific colors, all these can be changed in your adsense settings on your web page. Usually an ad without border, blue links and which blends in your site content and background works pretty well. Ad formats like the leatherboard(728*90), the skycraper(160 * 600 or 120 * 600) or the square ones(336 * 280, 300 * 250 or 250 * 250) are most used.

Furthermore, adsense placement is crucial to your overall success. Ads above the fall generally viewable without scrolling down will get the most clicks and ads that are strategically integrated in your content will be more profitable. Ads at the bottom usually generate fewer clicks.

Google Adsense is a fantastic way to earn extra money and should be used by webmasters for an additional stream of revenue.

Do high paying google adsense keywords work? Yes without any doubt if you are targeting adsense ads that advertisers are willing to pay high to get targeted visitors because that would be an important business for them, you should really benefit. Instead of earning a few cents per click, you will earn several dollars per click. Now this is indeed a huge difference. This can quickly add up. Usually adsense ads that pay well are in competitive fields whereby it’s difficult to get a top search engine ranking and advertisers are paying top dollars to get a high ranking on adwords along with the organic search engine listings. Adsense keywords like mesothelioma, asbestos cancer, asbestos, debt consolidation, refinance, home equity loans, structured settlement, acne, make money and others are among the top paying ones. The high paying adsense keywords usually range between $1-$50 but this is not static and can change depending how much advertisers are willing to pay for. But don’t just think that it’s that easy to cash in on those keywords.

First of all you need to build a useful website about one these topics preferably and not just adding pages having these type of content while on the other hand your site is about a completely different topic. Google has a system called smart pricing whereby if you are getting lots of clicks to a specific ad and generating good money from it, sometimes Google will try to level the playing field in an attempt to provide a better return on investment for the advertiser. In my opinion, this means that not every click counts the same, some clicks are way better and will tend to convert into either an online sale, a query, a subscriber etc… Google smart pricing model can estimate the value of a click eg based on the site relevance and adjusting prices on an ongoing basis be it lowering it to be just above the competitor’s maximum cost per click and giving greater value to the advertiser.

By site relevance, it means – is the whole site dedicated to a specific topic or just a single web page? You can have a page on your site about photography techniques and your site is in fact about digital cameras. Someone who is displaying ads about digital cameras on his digital camera website will get better value for the clicks whereas someone displaying digital camera ads on a particular page on his photography website. The difference is how targeted the visitor is. If the advertiser is getting higher value so will the adsense publisher meaning more dollars per click.

For sure, you should try to get some high paying adsense keywords related to the theme of your website to increase profitability in your adsense business while at the same time driving targeted traffic to your pages.

I sure hope so considering the type of service and lack of ‘innovation’ by my existing carrier. Fans of Google products and services will be happy to know that Google Voice Apps for Blackberry and Android are now available for download. I know I have been waiting quite a while to get my hands on these apps, specifically for the Blackberry.

What benefit do I get from Google Voice?
In its simplest form, Google Voice serves as a middleman between you and the wireless phone company, essentially making your existing carrier a far less useful player in the call process. Here are some unique features of Google Voice:

1. Google Voice phone number – you will receive a single unique Google Voice phone number that can route calls to multiple phones. The user will also be allowed to choose from an array of options for receiving calls based on time of the day and which will be displayed to the recipient.
2. Google Voice calls – Whereas normally you would directly make a call through your address book, the call is now placed through Google Voice. Though, you will have the option to use your existing carrier for calls, or use Google Voice for all calls.
3. Access and playback voicemails – Google Voice allows you to not only access your voicemail, but it transcribes the voicemail as well.
4. Access and playback SMS – Google Voice apps allow you to access SMS messages and read aloud the message. Better yet, users do not have to pay SMS charges when using Google Voice. This feature alone is a game-changer and will force the big wireless carriers to finally offer that service for free, as opposed to the annoying $5 – $10 additional charge per month.
5. Local or long distance calls – you can make both local and long distance calls using Google Voice, with the option to disable the service for one or the other. Though, why would you? We expect that long-distance calls will be cheaper using Google Voice than your existing carrier. That being said, don’t be surprised when you start receiving new promotions, discounts, and features from your wireless carrier in the coming weeks.
6. Address book integration – Google Voice Apps integrate well with your existing address book so calls can be placed directly through your phone.

Given Google’s innovative approach, you can bet more features will be added in the future, which makes me wonder why I need my existing carrier anyway? Hmmm…

Where can I download the apps?
The Google Voice applications can be downloaded at m.google.com/voice and are available today for both Android-based phones and the Blackberry.

Gmail has finally elminated its beta status from its logo. LaunchWide only has one thing to say: It's about time!

gmail beta is dead

It’s about time! As I hit my Gmail bookmark an hour ago to check my email messages, I was quite pleased to see a slight change in the Gmail logo – - the lack of “BETA” under the quite familiar Gmail text. As a project manager who has overseen several web application implementations, I was always unimpressed with how long Gmail kept the beta stamp on its popular email system. Considering that many startups remain in beta for only a few months, it’s quite surprising that Gmail – a large conglomerate with ample resources and user acceptance / feedback – maintained the beta label for almost five years. This is a great segue into what many startups in alpha or beta mode should consider:

1) How long should you be in beta? In my opinion, a startup should only be in beta as long as it takes to identify and rectify the most critical bugs. If your site or application works and performs the core functions you intend to deliver to the end-user, you should consider eliminating the ‘beta’ label. However, if you find that your system crashes or has inconsistent functional behavior, you should continue forward in beta.

2) Is beta bad? It depends. It is always wise to go into beta as a startup and ensure your product / service works. Users are fickle and will not tolerate lack of functionality, especially when its your core offering. However, if you intend on providing your service to a wider audience or to commercial customers, then it is in your best interest to eliminate the beta label. Most clients stereotype ‘beta’ to reflect instability. In my experience, I have never known a client to purchase a product or service that was in beta status. I think it is fair to say that Gmail was in beta for far longer than it actually needed to be and that it potentially lost commercial clients due to that label – consider Google Apps for businesses.

Wikipedia defines the term Beta quite well: “Beta” is a nickname for software which has passed the alpha testing stage of development and has been released to users for software testing before its official release. It is the prototype of the software that is released to the public. Beta testing allows the software to undergo usability testing with users who provide feedback, so that any malfunctions these users find in the software can be reported to the developers and fixed. Beta software can be unstable and could cause crashes or data loss.

A “beta version” is the first version released outside the organization or community that develops the software, for the purpose of evaluation or real-world black/grey-box testing. The process of delivering a beta version to the users is called beta release. Beta level software generally includes all features, but may also include known issues and bugs of a less serious variety.

Based on that explanation, do you think Gmail waited too long to eliminate the beta label? Do you think it lost customers due to this label?
